Frequently Asked Questions About Niagara Region Schools
Niagara Falls is served by three school boards. The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) operates public English-language schools. The Niagara Catholic District School Board operates Catholic English-language schools. The Conseil scolaire Viamonde operates French-language public schools, including École élémentaire LaMarsh in Niagara Falls.
Yes. The DSBN offers French Immersion programs at Central FI elementary school in St. Catharines and at several secondary schools. The Conseil scolaire Viamonde also operates fully French-language schools (not just immersion) for families seeking French-first education, with locations in Niagara Falls and Welland.
The DSBN (District School Board of Niagara) is the public, secular English-language school board — open to all students regardless of religion. The Niagara Catholic District School Board is a publicly funded Catholic school board. Both are fully funded by the Ontario government. Families can choose either board based on their preferences; enrollment in Catholic schools is open to all.
Each school board has a “find your school” or boundary tool on their website. Visit dsbn.org/findaschool for DSBN boundaries, niagaracatholic.ca for Catholic boundaries, or viamonde.ca for French schools. Your home address determines your designated school.
St. Catharines and Niagara Falls have the largest concentration of schools across all three boards, with both public and Catholic elementary and secondary options as well as French schools nearby. Welland also has strong representation across all boards. Smaller communities like Grimsby, Lincoln, and Pelham have fewer schools but still offer excellent options.
School boundaries in Ontario are set by each board and can change over time. While your home address determines your designated (“home”) school, placement is not always guaranteed due to capacity. It’s always best to verify current boundaries directly with the school board before purchasing a home if a specific school is a priority. Sheraz can help you find homes within a specific school’s catchment area.
